NEW FWD RECORD
1:21.91
The first race of the 2010 season started at Willow Springs international Raceway. This event marks the beginning of the 2010 NASA time trial season. During the off-season we had taken the front drive car apart after a dominating 2009 season to make some updates going into 2010.
These updates included additional stiffening and supporting of the chassis and suspension. Some of the other changes included engine tweaks and some new electronics gadgets, all in all we brought back the same car but ready for business. Another huge upgrade the WORLD Racing Scion tC received a brand new paint job on the interior and the engine bay. On Tuesday, we received the car backfrom the painters and almost immediately, the WORLD-racing crew got busy. Eric Plebani flew in from Pennsylvania in the nick of time to work hand-in-hand with the California crew to get the car done for the weekend. The crew worked tirelessly to finish the car and Saturday evening, we loaded up and headed to the dyno. After a successful session on the dyno the team headed straight to Willow Springs where they pulled up at the crack of dawn the and set up to do battle. It had been raining in Rosamond, CA over the past few days and the temperatures were in the 40's so needless to say there wasn't a lot rubber on the track and there certainly wasn't a lot of temperature in the track to make their Continental Tires stick.

First session on the track in the morning we somehow managed to put the car on pole with a fastest lap time of the weekend so far. So going out for the next session with some new Continental racing slicks and bringing the pack of time trial cars out on the track on pole proved to be a valuable position, as the tC rounded the final turn and got the green flag you could hear her turbo spool as she pulled away from the pack of cars violently. That session netted Chris and the team with their front wheel drive Scion tC yet another track record with a time of 1:21.91. The closest production vehicle at the race was more than 4 seconds back with a Corvette Z06 and the only vehicle putting in a quicker time all weekend was a 1300 pound Radical with a 13,000 RPM V-8 which was only 4/10 of a second quicker than the front drive Scion tC.
"We can definitely go faster" Rado said "This was our first weekend out with our redesigned tC and we were still fixing little bugs and easing into the limits of the car, with a little more track time and a few more tweaks this Scion will run teens at Willow". So after the team learned the radical was only 4/10 quicker, they decided to go out for the last session and do their best to close that gap. |
The sun was starting to go down, the track was cooling, and without another new set of Continental gumballs it seemed like Rado just couldn't find the grip and in the end 4/10 of a second shy of an overall win but the team was very pleased to be the fastest front-wheel-drive and again leave with another track record, especially since this is the first race of the year and the car performed so well, with little track time and the data we collected we are very sure that it's going to be a great year with our Scion tC.
So with more than a month to prepare for California Speedway the tC's next challenge on March 12-14th the team will surely put the new modifications to the test as it rounds the oval at nearly 200 mph! California Speedway is such a perfect testbed for a racecar like ours with the speeds and high cornering forces approaching 3 G's even exceeding even NASCAR it poses for a exciting weekend the WORLD Racing Scion tC.
As always Chris and the crew would like to thank the friends, family and excellent sponsors who help make this possible.
